Advent, Day 25: Restore us, O God

Today’s reading: Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19

restore us, O God;
make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved
we know we’ve strayed from
the green pastures where you fed us,
the careful paths where you led us;
Holy Shepherd,
hear us when we cry for you!
seek and find us,
and
restore us, O God;
make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved
don’t hold our humanness against us;
High King of our ancestors,
let go your anger,
nourish us no longer with tears.
remind us of our potential;
make us lights to the world
once again
and
restore us, O God;
make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved

revive us with the breath of new life
(an infant cry, a father’s sigh)
and we will speak your name like
children gathered in a mother’s arms.
you raise up
a shoot from the stump of generations,
a son
from whom we cannot turn away.
through him,
you
restore us, O God;

through him you

make your face shine upon us,
that we may be saved
