grace and peace
were born to you on one starry middle-eastern night,
with no civilized place to rest
and only a trough for a throne
grace and peace
were promised to you through the generations;
spoken aloud from the pulpits
and in the stories in the streets;
sung in the people’s psalms;
lifted up in prayer
grace and peace
call to you over the centuries,
offering a life of relentless love
in exchange for faithful obedience
grace and peace
are given to you and to
the Child of Grace
and
the Prince of Peace
you belong
