a prayer for numberings
eternal God,
release me from the desire to live by numbers:
counting the minutes and hours,
ticking off the calendar pages,
jotting down the scale’s report,
calculating my current age
teach me instead to
mark my minutes with attention
my days with memories
my body with grace
my life with joy
allow me glimpses of the life of abundance
you provide:
where the fullness of time is beyond measure
where days are rife with praise from rise to set
where wellness trumps weight
where “the hill” isn’t something I’m going over,
but a vantage point for the most amazing views
