Today’s reading: Luke 1: 68-79
By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us… to guide our feet into the way of peace. (vv. 78-79)
The way of peace is not Easy Street.
Thank God for the Son of promise, who saves us still (and again and again) from the threats of the journey, from the enemies who await our passing, from the haters who taunt and mock and scorn.
Thank God for the Son of the ancient covenant, who gathers us all into Abraham’s brood and into the holy contract so that we might be redeemed and so that we might be fearless followers.
Thank God for the son of Elizabeth, who prophesied boldly and readied the road (and the world) for the ways of God, so we might know God’s salvation.
Thank God for the Son of morning, who breaks through darkness to light the way, so we can see the twists and turns of the path, the rough crossings, the obstacles and pitfalls.
Though the journey might not
be peace-full,
