Welp… last week we started our Farewell Tour, visiting places we’ve been meaning to get to and revisiting some faves. Here: the USMC Iwo Jima Memorial (I esp loved the chalk drawings), and Arlington Cemetery: Chaplains’ Hill, the Unknowns, and the Challenger memorial. “They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.” 2 Samuel 1:22 Loving my newly finished (slightly modified for yarn yardage) #shanakielshawl by @feller.carol—made in the Arise winter set from @terrapinfiberworks. I haven’t knit with cotton since my early #knitting days and WOW this was a whole new world—I started a second project with the leftovers immediately. Just lovely to work with! And I love a local dyer too! 🦀 🐢 #knittersofinstagram #wipwednesday Gray, rainy, “down” day… perfect for getting my Enchanted April tradition in, just under the wire. Finding the book at Waterstones in London was an unexpected surprise… hard to believe that was only a couple weeks ago. #london trip knitting! (Priorities, priorities!!!) 🧶 Souvenir shopping at the lovely @looplondonloves 🧶 Gifts taken to dear friends: a baseball hat, and #oddmentscowl by @curioushandmade 🧶 My simple-but-not-boring travel knitting, #dathanhap by Kate Davies. #knittersofinstagram Our plans for a daytrip out of #london were scrapped (why did they schedule railway engineering work on a holiday weekend?!?!) but rescued by @londonwalksofficial and the City Churches Tour. Turned out to be a good Good Friday morning. 💜 St Stephen Walbrook, with Christoper Wren’s “practice” dome, Henry Moore modern altar, the cross draped. 💜 St Giles’ Cripplegate, with labyrinth: “What do you find at the centre?” (and the coolest children’s area!). 💜 St Mary-le-Bow, whose bells mark the bounds of the City… but were silent until Resurrection Day. I should probably not be surprised that I come back from #london wanting to read and write All The Things. There are writers and words everywhere, speaking for every generation. 🖊️ Commemorating Shakespeare’s First Folio (happy 400 years 🎂) 🖊️ Visiting Dickens’ home 🖊️ Paying tribute to Donne outside St. Paul’s 🖊️ Always watching out for Poems on the Underground (and, bonus, in the stations). I don’t think my kids were prepared for what a history lesson #london is. This is just a tiny glimpse. 🇺🇸 Stage of the @charingcrossthr set for @georgehtakei and the beautiful, painful “Allegiance.” 🇫🇷 A 100+-year-old pressed poppy from the battlefield of Ypres at the @imperialwarmuseums. 🇬🇧 And one of many, many war memorials in the city—this one to RAF bombers in Green Park. Poppies everywhere. London does not just say but practices: Never Forget. Suffragists and feminists in #london. ✊🏻#millicentgarrettfawcett and #emmalinepankhurst statues near Parliament✊🏻@guerrillagirls at the @tate Modern ✊🏻Street art in #littlevenice. “Courage calls to courage everywhere.” —MGF Beginning to reflect on my photos from our trip to one of our beloved hometowns… starting with a neighborhood, a poem, and a Bear. 🐻 🥪 #paddington #london
